(July
26) - The Indians (38-15 overall, 16-5 CCL) continued
their winning ways Thursday night in front of
a packed house on Santa Maria Sun's "Best
of" Night. In 6 matchups this season, the
Indians have owned the Blues in 5 of them.
SS
Cory Morales powered the Indians with a 3-run
shot in the second. Morales had a big night, going
3-4 with a HR, 2 runs and 5 RBI. His RBI double
in the first inning gave the Indians the lead
and after hitting his 3-run shot in the second,
added an RBI single in the 4th inning.
Nate
Smith got the win (6-0, 2.35 era) as he continued
to establish himself as one of the more dependable
pitchers on the Indians staff. Smith threw 5 innings
giving up 3 runs and preserving the lead for Brendan
McDonald and Cody Walden who completed the shutout.
The
tribe travels to Santa Barbara tonight for a 5:00
game, then Saturday at Elks Field at 5:00, and
conclude the regular season Sunday afternoon at
UCSB at 1:00.
This
will be the biggest regular season meeting between
the Indians (16-5 CCL) and the Foresters (17-4
CCL) as the Tribe looks to gain its first CCL
title and dethrone the defending CCL and NBC World
Series Champions. If the Indians win 2 of 3 against
the Foresters, they will hold the regular season
advantage and be declared CCL champs.
