The
Indians returned home from their 6 game roadtrip
to face the San Luis Obispo Rattlers on KCOY night
in front of a packed house at Elks Field. The
Indians rallied in the ninth for two runs but
fell short in a 4-3 loss to the Rattlers.
Indians
starter Joe Allison ran into trouble in the third
inning when he hit three straight batters to give
the Rattlers a 1-0 lead. Colt Ferguson hit into
a bases loaded fielders choice for an RBI and
Oscar Domingos singled in the Rattlers third run
for a 3-0 lead.
The
Rattlers tacked on another run against Allison
in the 4th with 2B Kyle Reesing's RBI single.
Rattlers starter Eddie Newman pitched a great
game, going 8 innings and giving up one run (unearned)
and 3 hits with 6 strikeoouts and 1 walk.
The
Indians cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the
5th when Ben Caple scored from first on Josh Meagher's
RBI double to right. Cody Walden relieved Allison
and continued his dominant pitching, lowering
his ERA to 2.54 for the season with 4 shutout
innings. Josh Walter worked the ninth for a perfect
inning.
In
the bottom of the ninth, the Indians staged their
comeback against Rattlers reliever Kyle Tognazzini
when SS Cory Morales opened up the inning with
a walk and moved to third on 2B Kyle Reesing's
error on Blake Crosby's grounder. Wes Dorrell
pinch hit and knocked in Morales with a sac fly
to center to make it 4-2. C Jeff Farnham hit a
chopper to first base, which the first basemen
fired into left field attempting the double play
and putting runners on the corners with 1 away.
1B Jeremy Bamsey came up and hit a deep sac fly
to center to score Crosby to make it 4-3. With
Farnham on first, pinch hitter Kyle Gerhart hit
a single to put runners on first and second with
Santa Maria native Josh Meagher coming up to the
plate. Meagher grounded out to first base to end
the game.
The
Indians had plenty of fans on hand for tonight's
game which featured a $1500 diamond bracelet from
Thompson's Diamond Jewelry as well as music from
local band
