Santa Maria Indians swept the doubleheader Saturday
night versus the San Luis Obispo Rattlers 4-0
and 4-1, respectively.
In
the first game, Diego Soto and Kris Tomlinson
shut down the Rattlers, surrndering only one run
on six hits in the seven inning contest.
CF
Will Campbell's sacrifice fly in the third gave
the Indians the lead that they would not relinquish
the rest of the game.
Soto,
who picked up the win on the night, threw four
strong innings and struck out four Rattlers before
handing the ball over to Tomlinson, Tomlinson,
out of Fresno State University, tossed the final
three innings and notched his first save of the
season.
C
Jeff Farnham (Hancock College) led the Indians
offensively, going 2-2 with a double and a pair
of runs.
In
the second game, the Indians capped off the sweep
with a 4-0 defeat of the Rattlers on a chilly
Saturday night at Elks. Cody Walden went the distance
for the Indians, pitching all seven innings of
the game, surrendering only four hits while striking
out twelve batters in the process.
CF
Will Campbell and RF Kyle Gerhart hit back-to-back
doubles in the bottom of the first, giving Waden
the only runs he would need to notch his second
win of the year.
The
Indians would add a few more insurance runs in
the 5th, as a two out double by 2B Evan Wells,
followed by SS Cory Morales' triple to dead centerfield
would provide a bit of breathing room for the
Tribe.
The
Indians were led offensively by Gerhart, who went
2-3 with a double and an RBI, and Wells, who went
2-4 with a pair of doubles.
