Elks
Field had a large crowd on hand for Vandenberg
Airforce Appreciation Night. The game was tight
the entire night with not many runs being scored.
The Reds struck first in the top of the fourth
scoring two runs. Verbryke walked to lead off
the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch
then to third on a fielders choice. He would score
later in the inning on another wild pitch. The
very next batter, Bobby Brown, would hit a solo
homer that just cleared the right field wall giving
the Reds a 2-0 lead.
The
two run lead wouldn't last for long because in
the bottom half of the fourth Derek Mcleod would
single to bring Matt Angel home cutting the Reds
lead in half to 2-1. The very next inning the
indians would add another run to tie the game
at two. Kyle Gerhart singled and picked up an
RBI when Evan Wells crossed the plate.
In
the eighth the Indians would take the lead when
Matt Angel scored on a poor throw home by the
Red's third baseman. The lead would hold giving
the Indians their eighth win of the season.
Matt
Angel had a great day at the plate going three
for four and scoring two of the Indians three
runs. Ben Caple also had a productive day going
two for three at the plate. Joe Allison, Evan
Fields, Josh Walter, Steve Martlaro, and TJ Statsny
all helped hold the Reds to only two runs on the
night. The five pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts
with Fields leading the pack with four. Martlaro
was credited for the win and Robert Deleon shouldered
the loss for the Reds. Statsny was able to hold
the Reds in the ninth and earn the save.
