The
Indians, coming off an 11-4 home loss in the three-game
series finale to the Blues dropped the opener
of a three game set with the Thousand Oaks 11-0.
A much more loose and relaxed looking team taking
the field Friday night fell down early and couldn't
rebound.
It
got ugly for the Indians in the first frame when
starter Evan Fields barely made it out of the
first inning, giving up 6 runs. Fields had trouble
finding the strike zone, walking in a run and
giving up a bases clearing double.
He
was relieved by Steve Martlaro who didn't fare
much better. In fact it got so bad that Indians
pitching coach Bryn Smith, former 13-year Major
League veteran with the Expos, Cardinals, and
Rockies, suited up for the final 3 innings. Smith
gave up 4 hits in 3 innings, giving up one run
and taking one bad shot to the right shin.
