The
Santa Maria Indians, winners of four of their
first five, look to complete the sweep of the
San Luis Obispo Blues tonight at 6:00pm at Elks
Field in Santa Maria. Tonight’s game will
be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1280 or on the
web at www.espnradio1280.com
The series kicked off Monday night in Santa Maria
when the Tribe erupted for a 14-0 win. Last night
the stage shifted to San Luis Obispo’s Sinsheimer
Park, where the ‘Big Red’ held on
for a 7-4 victory over their perennial CCL foe.
Offensively
the Indians got off to a fast start, pegging their
starter to a 7-0 advantage after five. Catcher
Zane Chavez (Palomar College headed to Indiana
State) had a big night, going 3-4 with a double
and two singles. Will Campbell added three hits
including a clutch two out, two run single in
the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Micah Spencer (Indiana State) held the Blues hitless
over the first four innings before right fielder
Austin Cunningham knocked a single off Indians
reliever Cody Walden (Cochise College) to open
the fifth. The bullpen surrendered four runs,
but eventually sealed the game with Steve Martlaro’s
(USC) first save of the year. The win pushed the
Tribe’s record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in
CCL play.
