Santa Maria Indians rout Blues 14-0 in CCL Opener

Santa Maria Indians pounded the San Luis Obispo Blues Tuesday night 14-0 in the California Collegiate League opener. On a night where the Indians recognized their 16 newest members of the Hall of Fame, the bats erupted led by first basemen Kris Haycock.

Indians lefty John Thomas, making his second appearance for the Tribe, went 5 innings for his first win. He gave up 3 hits and struck out 10 batters. He was relieved by lefty TJ Statsny, a 2006 returner making his Tribe debut, went three innings giving up 2 hits and striking out three.

First basemen Kris Haycock went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and 6 RBI. Shortstop Cory Morales added two hits, including a 2-run double and right fielder Ben Caple knocked in 2 with his 7th inning double. Third basemen Blake Crosby went 3-5 with 2 RBI.

The Indians play game two at Sinsheimer Stadium in SLO at 6:15 on Wednesday night and wrap up the three game set at Elks Field Thursday night at 6:00pm.
