KS - The Indians (1-1) won their first game of
the NBC World Series this afternoon 8-6 over the
US
Military All-Stars,
advancing to Sunday's loser bracket.
Indians
starter Joey Rosas (3-1, 3.04 era) gave up a run
in the first but settled down to throw 5 innings
(5 hits, 1 run, 3 SO) to pick up his 3rd win of
the season. The Indians answered the All-Stars
run in the first by tying the game at 1-1 on a
Matt Winkelman (.341) RBI groundout. The tribe
would add three more in the third inning started
by LF Loren Storey (.360) who opened with a bunt
single and stole second. 1B Bo Bowman (.343, 2
HR, 38 RBI) walked and Matt Winkelman knocked
home Storey with his second RBI of the day and
23rd on the season. RF Tyrese McDaniel knocked
home his 25th and 26th RBIs on the season with
a single up the middle to give the Indians a 4-1
lead.
In
the 6th, C Dave Morehead (3-4 on the day) opened
with a single and moved to third on 3B Willie
Keene's 11th double of the season, his second
hit of the day. A walk by Evan Wells set up the
bases loaded for CF Daniel Robertson (.343) who
drove a high fastball to left-center for a 2-run
double to make it 6-2 Indians.Loren
Storey's sacrifice fly to left field scored Wells
and Bo Bowman's RBI single with 2 outs knocked
home Robertson to give the Indians an 8-2 lead.
LHP
Derrick Saito (2-0, 4.15 era) relieved Rosas for
2 innings before RHP Tyler Backus closed the door
with 2 innings of no-hit ball, striking out Kevin
Garcia to end the game, Backus' third strikeout
victim on the day. The All-Stars added two in
the ninth on two errors by the Indians.
