Indians
Join California Collegiate League

The Indians joined the California
Collegiate League (CCL) beginning in 2006, making
it one of the most competitive summer leagues
in the country, joining such teams as the Santa
Barbara Foresters, San Luis Obispo Blues, Salinas
Valley Packers, Monterey Bay Sox, Surf City Hammerheads,
and California Oaks. Each team will play a three
game series against each other and have three
chances to earn a spot in the 2006 NBC World Series
in Wichita this summer, by winning the division
outright or by winning the NBC Central Coast Tournament,
beginning July 7right here in Santa Maria. The
second place finisher in the tournament also will
receive a bid to Wichita.
Last season, the CCL sent three
teams to Kansas, the Foresters, Blues, and Bay
Sox. All three teams fared well, with the Foresters
finishing in second place to the Aloha Knights
(OR).
"We are excited to be joining
a league of such quality baseball," said
Indians CEO and General Manager Kevin Haughian.
"Each of these seven teams will be putting
competitive teams on the field to make up some
of the best amateur college talent in the country."
The talent playing is this league will now be
in comparison to the Cape Cod Baseball League
and Alaska Baseball Leagues.
