Indians name 2008 coaching staff

March 6 - The Santa Maria Indians named their 2008 coaching staff over the weekend. Heading up the Santa Maria Indians coaching staff will be former professional baseball player Bobby Brown. Brown played collegiately at the University of Oklahoma and played 7 seasons of professional baseball, including a few seasons with the Kansas City Royals.

Brown's assistant will be Ryan Ruiz, the current assistant coach of Central Arizona College. Ruiz played collegiately for Texas Tech University as well as professionally for the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League. Central Arizona opened the 2008 season as the #1 ranked junior college program in the nation.

Also coaching for the Indians will be Mark Smith, former owner of the Paso Reds summer collegiate team. Last season the Indians played the Reds on Vandenberg AFB Military Night. Smith resides in Paso Robles and currently owns a local hitting facility as well as coaching in the high school ranks.

The Indians are excited to bring in a local coach such as Bobby Brown who graduated from San Luis Obispo High School, played at Cuesta College before heading to Oklahoma, and most recently coached three years for Hancock College and Chris Steven's staff.
