Indians stay local players with Hancock Bulldogs

March 21 - Santa Maria Indians head coach Bobby Brown has announced the signing of ten Hancock College Bulldogs for the 2008 summer. The Indians are continuing the trend of bringing in the top local talent in the Santa Maria Valley, after having signed former Bulldogs Jimmy Dodos (Chico State) and Jimmy Mittleberger (Concordia Irvine).

Three of the Bulldogs signed will play in the Indians infield in 2008. Third basemen Corey Dotzler, a right handed hitting freshman from Lompoc High School is the most touted player from Hancock. Joining him are Bulldogs shortstop Dave Anderson (Las Vegas, Faith Lutheran HS), and utility infielder Jonathan Ramirez (New Britain, CT, New Britain HS).

Other Bulldogs joining the Tribe are three outfielders: sophomore Dane McLaughlin from Arroyo Grande, sophomore David Harman from Righetti High School, and freshman Chad Conrad from Pioneer Valley High School. Freshman catcher Kyle Leon from Righetti High School will be one of three catchers for the Indians this summer.

The Indians signed three pitchers from Hancock, two lefties and a right hander. Joining the Indians pitching staff are freshman lefthander Sheldon Lechuga from St. Joseph’s High School, sophomore right hander Joey Green from Lompoc High School, and Hancock assistant coach and former Bulldog pitcher David Mittleberger. Mittleberger will be joining his brother Jimmy, the first time the two have played since Hancock College and the Santa Maria Stars.
