Indians win the NBC Central Coast State Tournament
Santa Maria Bracket - Elks Field
The Indians won their annual NBC Central Coast State Tournament this weekend at Elks Field in Santa Maria by defeating the winners of the San Luis Obispo Bracket at Sinsheimer Stadium. The four teams in the Santa Maria bracket were the Indians, the East LA Dodgers, the Bay Area Giants, and the Clovis Outlaws. In the San Luis Obispo bracket were the San Luis Obispo Rattlers, the Tinseltown Terror, Maxim Yankees, and the Oakland Expos.

Game 9 - Santa Maria Indians 9, Tinseltown Terror 4
Because the Tinseltown Terror went through the San Luis Obispo bracket undefeated they needed to be beaten twice in order for the Indians to claim the title. The Indians opted to go with Cody Walden, who escaped a huge bases loaded jam Saturday night in a crucial game versus the Clovis Outlaws to send the Indians to the tiebreaker.
Walden, who has seemed to improve game by game, was effective in shutting down the Terror through 7 innings, giving up 3 runs while walking one and striking out 7. The Terror hitters seemed confused all day long with Walden's assortment of changeup - fastball that were very deceptive to the hitters.
Steve Martlaro came on in the 8th and put a few runners on before big Texas righty Josh Walter came in the game to shut the door in the 8th inning with 2 bases loaded strikeouts. Walter worked a perfect ninth to give the Indians back to back NBC Central Coast State Championships.
The Indians offense was led by C Zane Chavez who went 3-4 with 2 RBI and Blake Crosby who added 2 RBI. The Indians Championship means they earn an automatic berth to the 2007 NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas
Game 8 - Santa Maria Indians 9, Tinseltown Terror 4
The Indians took down the Tinseltown Terror in game one of the NBC Central Coast Championship Sunday afternoon. The tribe got things started when CF Chase Leavitt opened up the game with a leadoff triple. Leavitt would later score on an Evan Wells RBI groundout for a 1-0 Indians lead.
Indians starter John Thomas went the distance for the Indians, going 9 innings giving up 4 runs and striking out 7. In the second inning, Eric Lopez hit a 2-run homerun to left field to give the Terror a 2-0 lead. However, in the 4th inning, SS Cory Morales hit a triple and scored on Tyrese McDaniel's RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2.
In the 5th inning the Indians used back-to-back-to-back doubles to take a 4-2 lead. DH Jeremy Bamsey hit a double and scored on Kyle Gerhart's double from the 9 hole. Chase Leavitt followed with another double to bring home Gerhart.
In the 6th inning Jeff Farnham hit a double, his first of two on the day, and scored on Jeremy Basmey's blast to right centerfield. Farnham plated DH Will Campbell and 3B Blake Crosby in the 7th on a 2 run double. Farnham ended up 2-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI.

Game 4 - Santa Maria Indians 14, Bay Area Giants 2
The Indians bats finally woke up tonight, notching a 14-2 win over the Bay Area Giants. The Indians offense got started with a Wes Dorrell 3-run homerun to right field in the first inning. Dorrell went 2-4 with 3 runs and 4 RBI. 3B Blake Crosby went 3-6 with 2 RBI.
Game 3 - Clovis Outlaws 6, East LA Dodgers 0
The Outlaws beat the Dodgers 6 -0 tonight to move to 2-0 in the Santa Maria bracket. 3B JJ Jelmini got Clovis on the board in the third inning with a 2 run double to left center. Jelmini had a huge day going 2-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. 2B Jace Brown and LF Tyler Pryor each added an RBI apiece for the Outlaws. Brian Oliver got the win for Clovis throwing 5 shutout innings and he was relieved by Cory Davisson who tossed 4 scoreless innings.
The Outlaws play the Indians tomorrow at 4 with the Dodgers and Giants squaring off at 1pm.
Game 2 - East LA Dodgers 7, Santa Maria Indians 2
The Indians dropped the opener of their tournament Thursday night to the East LA Dodgers. The Dodgers jumped out to the early lead in the 3rd inning on a Cory Morales error. In the top of the 4th, the visiting Indians took the lead on an error by shortstop Jovanny Bamasco and an RBI groundout by CF Chase Leavitt.
However, the Indians lead would not last for long as the Dodgers rallied for 2 runs off starter Holden Sprague. Sprague took the loss for the Indians, going 5 innings giving up 5 hits, 3 runs (2 earned) and 4 strikeouts. Reliever TJ Statsny pitched 1 and 2/3 inning giving up 6 hits and 4 runs (all earned).
Game 1 - Clovis Outlaws 6, Bay Area Giants 5
The Outlaws scored 4 runs in the 6th inning to overcome a 5-2 and beat the Bay Area Giants on Thursday evening on the opening round of the NBC Central Coast State Tournament. Kyle Cowger had the big hit for the Outlaws with a 2 run double to left field in the 6th inning. Cowger went 2-4 on the day with 2 RBI. 3B JJ Jelmini also went 2-4.
For the Bay Area Giants, CF Danny Rico went 2-4 with 2 RBI and C Jordan Wesley went 2-4 with 2 RBI as well. Anthony Edwards took the loss for the Giants and Rich Hoffman got the win for Clovis with Cory Davisson picking up the save.
